Plantronics GameCom P90

If you have looked enough at this website you would notice that there is one thing outside of games themselves that I have an abundance of… headsets. In my own opinion, sound is what makes a players experience so much more enjoyable, whether it is chat / voice communication or full in game audio. I wanted something different than what I have previously reviewed, and since I do not get many headsets for the Playstation 3 device I figured I would ask the great people at Plantronics. Aside from this review there is a back-story to Plantronics and myself. Plantronics was the company I went to for a review on my very first headset, and as it turns out I still use that headset quite frequently. You all will be able to enjoy the same headsets I use on a daily basis with the contest at the bottom of this review!

Anyways, this review is based off of a couple criteria –important ones- that really define the players experience; the “3 C’s” : Connectivity, Comfort, Clarity. So without further a due, the Plantronics GameCom P90 Bluetooth Headset for the Playstation 3.

Connectivity

One thing on every gamers mind –at least Sony’s market- is how easy it is to connect your device. Of course, as a man in the truest form I neglect to read the user manual –which I urge everyone else to do- but even then, I really did not need it. It was relatively easy to connect as the Playstation 3 automatically picked it up once I went into Sync mode. I have to go on record and say it was one of the easier syncs I have performed via Bluetooth and the Playstation 3 –that’s counting Sony branded hardware-. Once I synced it up I was pretty much ready to go.

Comfort

This is usually one of the most important things when it comes to a headset; let’s face it no one likes to play with a uncomfortable headset. I like to think that if you play with an uncomfortable headset, it somehow takes your mind off of the game. However, keep in mind that everyone’s comfort level is different, and this is based upon mine.

I personally found a great deal of comfort in the P90; it does not grip your ear too tight, it more or less cups it, allowing for more comfort. Not only that, but it just glides into your ear without any discomfort, and it feels right at home in my ear.

Clarity

Ah the BIGGEST reason why someone looks at a gaming headset. Who wants to listen to their friends while their voice sounds like they are talking through a pillow? Well do not worry there is none of that with the P90. This headset is SO CLEAR that I can hear a mouse that is across the country –no not literally, this is just there for added effect-, but it is VERY clear. What I loved the most was that there was no buzzing in my ear during gaming sessions. Some of you may have experienced with longer gaming sessions how Bluetooth devices tend to start “humming” after a few hours. I was very pleased to find out the absence of this little annoyance.

All in all this is the best Playstation 3 headset –minus in game audio- I have ever had the pleasure of reviewing. I was very pleased with how clear my voice, as well as other players’ voice when gaming. Great job Plantronics! Just great job!
